Panaji: Petrol Price in Goa to be Cut by Rs 11, Cheapest in Country

Panaji, Mar 27 (IANS): In a step that will make petrol in Goa the cheapest in India, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar Monday proposed a reduction in prices of the fuel by Rs.11 per litre in the state.

Petrol for as cheap as Rs.55 per litre was one of the main promises of the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) in its election manifesto for the March 3 assembly polls.

Parrikar said that only 0.1 per cent value added tax (VAT) component would be levied by the state government for sake of record.

"I propose to reduce petrol price by Rs.11 per litre to save commuters from inflation," Parrikar said, presenting his first budget after his party came to power in the state/

Once the budget is passed, the price of petrol in Goa would be the cheapest in the country at Rs.55.

Petrol in Goa is presently priced at approximately Rs.66 per litre.

The reduction of petrol price is expected to provide major relief to a large section of the 14 lakh-odd population in Goa, which has one two-wheeler for every three resident citizens. As of 2011, the state had 5.33 lakh two-wheelers registered in the state.

Parrikar also said that in order to lure aviation companies to refuel at the Goa airport, VAT on aviation fuel would be reduced from 22 per cent to 12 per cent.

    @Alex, Mangalore-
If that is the case then how Bangldesh, Pakistan & our neighbouring countries sell cheaper petrol than India (their rates are just Rs. 22).
Tar is used in many other ways including roads.
LPG is got when crude oil is cracked as a bye product, rather than petrol converting as Gas. May be you are confused with Naptha.
50% of petroleum product prices comprise- duties, levies & vat. Why no petroluem companies are in the red despite not getting any subsidies from successive govts., in full?
Why should common man subsidise rich who can afford diesel cars including rich farmers as well as fuel guzzling transport sector as well as construction sectors who are using the same diesel(or kerosene) & charge Rs. 750/hr to consumers.
Why a necessity is taxed 50% while a luxury such as gold is only taxed 1 or 2%?
The thing is robbing Peter to pay Paul is a communist policy any governments should abandon to serve justly all its citizens.
Fleecing poor 50 times & compensating only 1% should not be the norm, if All Are Equal.

Goa gets its Petrol/Diesel/naphta supply from MRPL.Inspite of it going to Goa by Ship, petroleum products are cheaper than Mangalore (Karnataka). This is because of the high Karnataka State Sales/Excise Tax.Likewise petroleum products are a bit cheaper in Tamil Nadu.So one can imagine the high rate of taxes in Karnataka as compared to Goa.

We fools in Karnataka still keep quiet although we know we are being over charged. In fact it is better to be in a smaller State than in a large one like Karnataka.Half the money is going into our politicians pockets or to look after our politicians and their families.

Most of the people who lauded him are surely fools.
The reason is, who will pay for the loss incurred in lowering the cost of petrol.
Just see how it works. A barrel of crude oil costs average 110 dollars, add freight it will be definitely at 120 dollars. A barrel of crude is just 164 litres.

In crude only 82% of the crude are refined into petrol, diesel, kerosene, naptha, aviation kerosene, LPG and lubricating oils. Rest is all Tar.
Hence only 135 litres of refined products are got, giving a price of 90 cents a litre. that is Rs 45. Add to this refining cost and transportation cost. How much will it cost? Minimum of Rs 55 average?
Who will bear the subsidy given to Kerosene, Diesel and cooking gas?
Cooking gas Cyliner of 14.2 Kg is equivalent to about 17 litres of Petrol, equaling Rs 950.

Logically it is all our loss, is some one else's gain.

At present the petrol price in mumbai is 72/- (i think is the highest in the country) which will be hiked into 77/- per litre within a week or two. Any party be it CONGRESS, BJP, SHIVSENA, MNS OR RPI whichever make a promise of bringing down the petrol price in maharashtra will get my vote. Becouse as somebody rightly wrote here that if petrol prices comes down, then every commodity will be cheaper. LET US VOTE FOR A PARTY WHICH IS BRINGING RELEIF TO COMMON MAN RATHER THAN OUR POLITICAL IDEOLOGY.

This is called peoples Governance.. When the Central is just believing in increase the Petrol price time and again, BJP govt in Goa has reduced the price by whopping Rs11 per liter which no other govt did so far.
Same goes with Karnataka as well, When Center increased the VAT for gold, diesel etc, Out State Govt reduced all these rates..
This is Real KICK BACK to the CENTER from BJP ruled states..

Our PRESIDENT should also learn now, what benefit does India got from her 205 crore foreign family tour from the Tax payers money.

LONG LIVE BJP, LONG LIVE PARIKKAR DVS, MODI..
TUSI GREAT HO... MAY GOD BLESS YOU.... KICK the CONGRESS OUT OF COUNTRY.. we can see Petrol at Rs 30, diesel @ 18, Gold @ 1800, Inflation @ 4 and GDP @ 9 again....
