Muscat, Mar 24: Oman Billawas Annual Cricket Tournament 2012 which was held recently at the PDO Ground was a huge success. The final match was the most exciting one, between the last year's winners Billawa Challengers and SNG XI A. Finally it was SNG XIA that won the prestigious cup showing excellent team spirit.
Both the team captains - Sukumar Anchan of SNG XIA and Prakash Bellor of Billawa Challengers - were extremely excited to be the finalists. They had to play extremely tough matches earlier to be in the finals. The semi-final match was exciting too, played between Birduda Biruver and Billawa Challengers. The second semi-final match was played between SNG XIA and Sohar Biruver from Sohar.
Sukumar Anchan was adjudged man of the match and Somnath Poojary was adjudged man of the series and best batsman. Both represent SNG XI A team. The longest six of the tournament came from Manohar Salian and Jitesh Poojary was adjudged as the best bowler. Both the players represent Billawa Challengers team.
More than 350 members, including members from Sohar who were present throughout the day witnessed an excellent, thrilling match. The opening ceremony was done by Ashok Suvarna, President, along with S K Poojary, Umesh Bantwal, Dr Anchan C K, the vice presidents of Oman Billawas along with the Sports Committee and working committee members.
There were ten teams who played their best for the prestigious Oman Billawas cup namley: KATAPADI SNG, POOJARY XI 'A', SOHAR BIRUVER SNG XI 'C', KUDROLI XI, SNG XI 'B', BIRDUDA BIRUVER, SNG XI 'A' BILLAWA CHALLENGERS, and POOJARY XI 'B'. The captains are: Sukumar Anchan, Prakash Bellor, Dr Shodhan Kumar, Ajit Salian, Shreyas, Anubhav Anchan, Ramkrishna, Prasad Amin T, Jayesh Poojary and Naveen Kotian.
The Oman Billawas Members extend their warm thanks to Sports Secretary Gangadhar Poojary and Sujith Anchan and Mahesh Salian for working from the conception to the Finales and all the Captains, Umpires Sukumar Anchan, Shamith Bangera , Surendra Anchan, Mahesh Salian, Shashiraj, Naveen and Prakash Bellor. They were ably supported by a team of scorers namely Tilak Suvarna Prasad Amin Ashwin Kumar and Kiran Poojary who did an excellent job of keeping track of each runs.
Harish Poojary, Srinivas and SudhKar Kotian kept the audience enthralled by their effortless commentary during the event in Kannada, English and Tulu. Excellent food arrangement right from breakfast, lunch and tea along with refreshments were served to all the members who were present. The entire co-ordination for logistics and food was done by Guruprasad Amin, Chandrakant Kotian, K N Anchan and Vittal Poojary along with their team.
To build up the excitement there were raffle prizes to be won, new members' registration along with changes were also done. A team of devoted members namely Kushal Bangera, Suchetna Anchan, Madhu Suvarna, Madhuri Suvarna, Gangadhar Poojary, Umesh Bantwal and Sudesh N K handled registration and raffle draw co-ordination. S K Poojary ensured memento co-ordination.
M Subramanian from PDO was the chief guest. He presented mementos to all the sponsors and the winner's cup to the SNG XIA and runner-up cup to the Billawa Challengers. Ashok Suvarna, President, concluded the meet thanking each one of the participants and all those members with whose support this event was a great success.
Final Match Between SNG XI A and Billawa Challengers
SNG XI A (Oasis Ideal Trading) batted first and scored total 52 runs with loss of 2 wickets from 6 overs. Somanath Poojary scored 21 runs (not out) from 9 balls. Sukumar Anchan scored 17 runs from 10 balls and took 2 wickets from 12 balls for 12 runs.
Billawa Challengers batted second and scored 43 runs from 6 overs with the loss of 4 wickets. Jitesh Poojary took 1 wicket for 8 runs from 2 overs. SNG XI A won the match by 9 runs.
