Mangalore, Mar 24: World tuberculosis (TB) day was jointly observed in collaboration with district health and family welfare society, TB division, district TB association, Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI), project Akshaya, Infant Mary’s Convent, Jeppu on Saturday March 24 at Spandana Trust here.
The programme began at 10.30 am with a prayer song and lighting of lamp by Dr K N Vijaya Prakash. A mobile tent with information on TB was inaugurated by the CEO, in the presence of DHO, DTO, DCo of CHAI.
The chief guest of the function Dr O R Shrirangappa, district health and family welfare officer, DK and Sr Mary Emma Joseph, superior, Infant Mary’s Convent, explained the importance and need to control tuberculosis and responsibility of the community in eradication of the same.
Dr Kishore Kumar, district HIV/Aids nodal control officer, spoke about the importance of the function and gave statistics of TB in the district. He also explained about the TB control programme available in the district.
In the presidential address, Dr K N Vijaya Prakash, CEO, zilla panchayat, DK, said, “We are happy to participate in a very important programme pertaining to the humanity”. He said that the Catholic associations and missioners have done yeoman service in eradication of tuberculosis, leprosy and various such health hazards and which are to be appreciated. He said that Spandana Trust is doing a wonderful work in eradication of TB. He also appreciated CHAI Akshaya for rendering a good service.
Dr M Ramakrishna Rao, district TB control officer, welcomed the guest and also gave presentation on TB awareness.
Sachin K T, district coordinator Akshaya project CHAI, Sr Evangeline, managing trustee, Spandana trust, Infant Mary’s Convent, Jeppu were present on the dias. Theertha K S, social worker, Spandana Trust proposed vote of thanks.
Jayaram Poojary – district senior malaria inspector, Mangalore was master of the ceremony.
About 400 people from various parts of city participated in the programme.
