Central Nirmal Gram Award for Dakshina Kannada District

Mangalore/New Delhi, Mar 22: The prestigious Nirmal Gram Award instituted by the government of India under its 'Total Sanitation Campaign' was conferred on Dakshina Kannada district for its sanitation.

Zilla panchayat president Shailaja Bhat K T received the award from President of India Pratibha Patil at an event held in New Delhi.

Taluk panchayat president Bhavya, CEO Vishwanath, president of Sullia taluk panchayat Muliya Keshava Bhat and CEO Mulle Swamy were present at the ceremony.

Union minister for rural development Jairam Ramesh, Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat CEO Dr K N Vijaya Prakash among others were also present.

The cleanliness and sanitation campaign was initiated on August 2, 2005 in the district. As many as 203 gram panchayats and three panchayats have previously won this award.

    I would like to put accross my hunble request to Shailaja Bhat to go around Konaje area and the road from Pumpwell to B.C road . Garbage is piled up on either sides of the main road. We will be able to see the plastic waste in the City burning everyday . Unable to understand on what basis our Dakshina Kannada District has been awarded for cleanliness. I hope Shailaja will take take up this issue seriously .

    Mr Mahendra Shetty, well Yeddy is still mass leader that is why BJP Low command not able to issue a show cause notice even for formality as he destroyed the party image on daily basis.This gentleman(YEDDY)hijacked 70 MLAs to a resort and your poor DVS with tears on eyes tabled Budget with out his fellow men in Assembly!!!Is it not a height of stupidity, indiscipline,unconstitutional, dissent or incompetent.What I said was I am still sticking on it.Did BJP win in Bellary or Udupi with out him?

    Yeddy sans corruptions an asset to any party because he is an mass leader and leader of powerful community.India,never ever will become Hindu nation and it will remain as secular democratic nation.You may yell and yell like that for your SANTHRIPTI but not..Take for example U-C constituency was released from mafia and communal politics!!! Those majority voters were secular Hindu brothers you must take note of that.

    I fail to understand the theme of "Total sanitation campaign" and Nirml Gram Award for that.
    In Mangalore city itself there are many areas which are not connected to underground drainage facility.Drainage is laid sometimes back but not made operational for techinical feacibility.Accomplishment of the task is still uncertain.

    Appreciate the peopole of DK distrcit for the award, not for any poltical Party. Govt must focus on Northern part of Karnataka for such awards.

    If sanitation drive in some of the roads and drainage systems too not repaired in time, next year we would be in line for 'MAL'
    Gram Award-definitely....Keep party politics away please at least when it comes to 'sanitation' n 'cleanliness'!
