Mangalore, Mar 21: Former minister B Janardhan Poojary, congratulating the people for voting in favour of Congress in Udupi-Chikmagalur bypoll, said that people have shown that they are clever and will not fall prey to any 'casteist gimmick' by BJP.
"With this, people have again demonstrated that they are the king in democracy," he said, while addressing reporters here on Wednesday March 21.
Poojary further said that BJP planned to play caste politics and fielded Sunil Kumar (a Billawa) to divide the votes of the Billawa community. Hence, people belonging to Billawa community deserve additional appreciation, he said.
He also claimed that his defeat in the previous Lok Sabha election was because of cheating by others. "Hence this is an answer by the voters," he said.
On the Congress victory, Poojary said leaders of the party had worked unitedly, and that the issues such as rave party, corruption and others troubling the BJP also worked in favor of Congress.
On the state budget presented by CM Sadananda Gowda, he said the budget does not have any ‘direction’ (vision) and that farmers had been neglected.
About turmoil within the BJP, Poojary said the truce (called by Yeddyurappa) is temporary, and the turmoil would continue to haunt the party.
He also stressed the need for midterm assembly election in the state and challenged BJP to face it.
