Daijiworld Media Network

Panaji, Mar 21: Mathany Saldanha, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minister, who had won from Cortalim seat and recently was sworn in, collapsed at home after which he was shifted to a private hospital, according to family sources.

He died of a massive heart attack in the wee hours of Wednesday March 21. He was 64.

The minister's body has been shifted to the state-run Goa Medical College for post mortem.

Various political parties have expressed deep condolence on his death.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar called for an emergency meeting at 9 am to reportedly decide a fresh date for the presentation of the budget. The CM was supposed to present the state budget in the assembly.

The Goa Assembly Session may be adjourned till Monday, according to sources.

Matanhy did his job with a sense of Duty, Discipline and Devotion. He was a voice for people who did not have voices. He believed in his mission of speaking up against injustice. He showed great courage against all odds. He is now a role model for the youth. He has shown that there is no need to blend in but that you can stand out. May his family be comforted with the outpouring of love

I was realy shocked and sad when I got the news this morning that a great teacher who i liked very much will no more amongst us. All the memories of him came in front of me, like for instance i remember he use to be my biology and work experience teacher he used to teach us very well almost all the boys would pass in his subject. I remember most of us used to fool around in his class most of the time he used to not mind. I remember sometimes he would hit us with his belt. But all of us liked the tap of the belt. It used to not be hard. On another occasion he saw me walk pass his house and when he saw me called me and gave me some goodies. He was indeed a good man. We should all pray for his eternal salvation. And that he may rest in peace. I'm one of the past pupels of don bosco high school.

Dear Goan friends, Condolences, May his soul RIP.
The comments made by Louis Kuwiat were not in good taste.
There is big differnce between BJP IN GOA & KARANTAKA
In Goa it is against corruption, here it is otherway round.
Goan leadres need to understand this before they lend thier hand to thier counterparts in Karnataka

In Karnataka recently there as been lot of incedents happening in past two-three years. Christians and christan youth are at the receving end of these incidents.
The community is not convinced by the assurance given by the goverment.
There are lot of christan youth still strugling with cases booked by the adminstarion/police who directly come under goverment.

It may be the cause of outburst from Mr. Louise. He has relized it.

May his soul rest in peace ..People like Louis, Kuwait are having really cheap mentality . They think of religion at this sad moment also. Lois you are not aware of mathany. He is the person who supported parrikar when there was religious pressure as well as money(cash) lucrative offer from opposite parties. He stood behind parrikar and said i am supporting for better future of Goa. Being christian he supported Parrikar and Digamber being saraswat Hindu ditched parrikar at critical time for just few bundles. Hates off to mathany. We have really lost Gem of Goa.

Mathany (as we used to fondly call him) was my Biology teacher at Don Bosco High School, Panjim. He was passionate about Goa and its people and this is what led him to politics. As such, he was a true public servant - a politician driven by the motive to serve.
It is indeed very sad that he passed away before he could get a chance to serve the state and people he loved.
I hope the new found sense of collective social responsibility that saw Goans decisively exercising their franchise, is not short-lived and they ensure that in future the Goan polity works for the well-being of the state and its people. This is the only true way to honour Mathany's memory.
Being only human Mathany also had a few frailties - he was a chain smoker. He was helpless against this addiction and used to often caution students against giving in to such habits. I have no doubts that tobacco also contributed to his relatively early demise. I hope that people also take lesson from this.
In all, this is a very sad day but I hope the people of Goa take forward his legacy.

Goa is in deep sorrow upon hearing the sudden demise of a good faithful devoted sincere and loving man of Cortalim Goa. He had undoubtedly great dreams of Goa but wished differently and called him at the dead of night, which reminds me the Hymn "silent night Holy Night"and Goa the father be happy to welcome him in that dark night 9n the earth when heaven is filled with glory. He was a friend of all.

undoubtedly it would take time to fill the cavity created by that great man of Goa.While sharing my sympathies to the bereaved family for having lost a good father and devouted and loving husband, entire Goa is pained. we pray for his heavenly abode and we are sure he would intercede with the heavenly Father through Jesus and give us a replacement in his place.

I rememeber right from during my school days he used to educate on our rights and used to be the best teacher around. He was a able administrator and also was one of the few ministers who really worked for the upliftment of the poor and down trodden.
