Panaji: Five Goa Ministers Allotted Portfolios

Panaji, Mar 17 (IANS): Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) Friday allotted portfolios to the five ministers who were sworn in a day after winning the assembly polls March 6.

The cabinet of the BJP-led coalition government has two Christian ministers who have been allotted crucial portfolios like revenue, tourism and environment, which is important in view of the alleged indiscriminate mining in Goa.

The ministers are: Sudin Dhavalikar (Public Works Department and Transport), Laxmikant Parsenkar (Health and panchayat affairs), Francis D'Souza (Revenue, rural development and craftsmen training), Mathany Saldanha (Tourism, forest and environment) and Dayanand Mandrekar (irrigation and civil supplies).

The BJP won an unprecedented simple majority of 21 on its own in the recent assembly polls (in the 40-member legislative assembly) and formed the government along with its coalition partner the Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party and two other independent legislators.
