Mangalore, Mar 15: Catholic Sabha, Rosario Unit staged a religious play titled “John-The Baptist” on Sunday March 11 at Rosario Cultural hall, here.
The chief guest for the occasion was youth leader Denis D'Silva. Fr Stany Goveas, parish priest of Rosario Cathedral and spiritual director of the Catholic Sabha, Catholic Sabha office bearers Nizel Pereira (vice president of the central committee), Joseph Nazareth (president of the Episcopal City Varado), Benedicta D’Souza (secretary of the Episcopal City Varado), Dolphy D’Souza, vice president of parish pastoral council
of the Cathedral, Richard John Pais, president of theUnit, Shahila D’Almeida, secretary, Ida Furtado former president, Hilary Lobo, writer, Francis D’Souza, director and Harold D’Souza, convener of the drama were present on the dais.
The programme began with a short prayer service. Richard John Pais, president of the unit welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests to the audience. Speaking on the occasion, he said Rosario unit has been conducting Konkani drama competitions for the past ten years which is a record and that a new record was being created by enacting a drama with only artists from the parish. Harold D’Souza, convener of the drama, talked about the efforts of people who contributed in different ways for this drama.
Denis D'Silva, Fr Stany Goveas and Nizel Pereira distributed the prizes for the various competitions held by the Rosario Catholic Sabha Unit.
Denis D’silva, chief guest of the function, in his address, appreciated the good work the Catholic Sabha is doing in the parish and offered his support for all the activities of the unit.
Nizel Pereira highlighted the main functions of the Catholic Sabha and stressed on the need of implementing the same in the parish for those who are in need.
In his address, Fr Stany Goveas appreciated the work of the Catholic Sabha and also gave the message about the need of Religious dramas during the lent season. He stressed on the importance of John the Baptist in the Bible.
Shahila D’Almaida, secretary of the unit proposed the vote of thanks.
After the stage programme, the religious play John the Baptist, acted by more than 50 artists from the Cathedral was showcased. The sequence music was provided by Binoy D’Silva and the music for songs was given by Cyprian Vas. Stage settings were done by Steven Fernandes, Regnel D’Silva and team.
Many parishioners and others gathered at the hall for the play.
