Sullia, Mar 14: By defeating the Congress-JD(S)-independents coalition, which was formed with the sole intention of subduing BJP in the election to the taluk Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), BJP has emerged as the largest party in the 13-member APMC by bagging seven seats. The ‘Progressive Front’ formed by the said coalition was relegated to second spot with six seats.

Former BJP leader, N Jayaprakash Rai, who also happens to be a former APMC president, and who led the Progressive Front, was defeated from Amaramudnoor constituency. In this constituency, Radhakrishna Bolllur, who joined BJP by leaving Congress, came out victorious.

Block Congress president, M Venkappa Gowda, said that the Progressive Front will continue to retain its identity and will carry forward its fight the coming town panchayat, and assembly elections together. The parties have also decided to retain the post of the convener of the front with Jayaprakash Rai. Rai said he has not lost heart because of this defeat. He said he is ready to lead the fight against BJP.

Reacting to the above challenge, BJP president, Venkat Dambekody, said that Congress, JD(S) and independents will never succeed in their efforts to finish off BJP in the region.
