Kasargod, Mar 14: Unknown mischief mongers set a stack of wooden pieces located opposite a furniture shop in Kanhangad Madian early morning on Tuesday March 13. The wooden pieces of different quality were meant for furniture manufacture. The furniture shop lost heavily in the incident, and timely action by fire brigade personnel stopped fire from spreading to disastrous proportions.
A woman living opposite the furniture shop, which belongs to Mohammed Rauf from Panattur Chembari, saw outside her house after hearing some strange sound in the wee hours on Tuesday. She saw to her horror that flames were emanating from the stack of wooden pieces. She immediately alerted the neigbours, who called the fire brigade.
When the locals and the fire brigade personnel were trying to extinguish fire, some miscreants pelted stones at them. During the operations, three petrol cans were recovered from the site.
The actual loss in the incident is yet to be estimated, as innumerable costly wooden pieces have been reduced to ashes in the fire. Hosdurg police have registered a case, and begun investigation.
