Udupi: State Chief Election Officer Briefs Media on Poll Preparations

Udupi, Mar 14: State chief election officer Suranjana held a press meet at the district headquarter on Wednesday March 14, to brief on preparations that are under way for the forthcoming Udupi–Chikmagalur parliamentary bypoll that will be held on Sunday March 18.

 Udupi–Chikmagalur parliamentary constituency has a total of 12,53,580 voters with 6,11,296 males and 6,42,284 females. The voters list has pictures of 87 percent voters. Seventy-seven teams of observers are monitoring the election campaign and have already booked 19 cases and arrested 31 people for breach of code of conduct. A total of 672 micro observers are also assisting the key observers.

Over 5,000 policemen will be on election duty on Sunday. A total of 240 videographers are being assigned to observe candidates’ activities. The party symbols will not have a place on the voter slip. The by poll will be held on Sunday between 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. The poll campaign will have to conclude by Friday March 16 at 5.00 pm. Suranjana said that the voters can freely cast their votes.
 
Electioneering officer Manoj, Udupi deputy commissioner Dr Reju, Chikmagalur deputy commissioner D K Rangaswamy, Chikmagalur SP Shashi Kumar, and Udupi SP Borelinge Gowda were present at the press meet.
