Udupi, Mar 11: Social worker and ex-officer of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), K Vishwajna Shetty died of a heart attack here on Saturday March 10. He was 76. He is survived by wife and three sons.
K Vishwajna Shetty, who arrived on Saturday morning to attend a programme here at ‘Muddhana Mantapa’ in MGM College, collapsed following a heart attack. He breathed his last while he was being taken to hospital.
Vishwajna Shetty has rendered service in various departments during his stint at LIC and retired as a managing director. He was a sportsman and also served as an office-bearer in LIC Sports Recreation Club and Udupi Sports and Cultural Association. He had also won the district-level badminton tournament organized by LIC in Udupi.
He served Udupi Yakshagana Kalaranga as a founder member, then as treasurer, secretary and vice-president. He was conferred Rajyotsava Award in the year 2000 and ‘Yaksha Chethana’ award in the year 2010 for his contribution to the field of Yakshagana Kalaranga.
He was the founder secretary of Udupi senior citizens' club and remained as its president until his death. He was also an office-bearer and active member of Life Insurance Corporation employers' union.
