Udupi, Mar 11: Pangal Rabindra Nayak, veteran entrepreneur and transport operator was felicitated at MGM College here on Saturday March 10 on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
Acknowleding the honour, Nayak said that he was elated by the love and affection showed by the people towards him and his family. As a gesture of gratitude, he said that he would bequeath his property for public welfare.
Stating that his family members had been blessed with the gift of long life, he said that an unmitigating interest in work had kept him going for so long. He also mentioned that U S Nayak Memorial Charitable Trust was built in memory of his father.
Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes and his wife Blossom also spoke on the occasion and wished Nayak on his birthday.
Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt blessed the gathering and spoke on the virtues of sacrificing for god and for the benefit of society. He said that one needs the blessing of god and the support of the people to succeed in any work, and hence it is one's duty to give them back a portion of what one has earned.
A souvenir was released on the occasion by philanthropist G Shankar. Nayak was felicitated on the occasion by the dignitaries. The staff and students of Katpady Ayurvedic College also honoured Nayak.
Among those present were Bharatiya Vikas Trust managing trustee K M Udupa, Kannada Sahitya Parishat district president Ambatanaya Mudradi, felicitation committee president Prof K R Hande and others.
