Addressing the gathering, Radhakrishna noted that ‘Bawa’ signifies a relationship. He said people like Bawa, who is pure-hearted, unblemished, and humane, are very much necessary in the present day society, where there are many who try to foment trouble in the name of caste, language, religion, water, etc.
“People of Dakshina Kannada district, who are now accustomed to living under the clouds of a lurking fear, needs to sincerely take up the task of upholding cultural values. Bawa, who showed to the world that poverty need not become an impediment if the person concerned has the will to succeed, has emerged as an icon for many,” he added. Journalists, Ravi Belagere, delivering keynote address, felt that this felicitation should have been held at Bangalore, immediately after Bawa retired. He appreciated Bawa for putting in efforts to ensure that the underworld from Mumbai did not spread their wings to Bangalore. “The people of Bangalore are highly indebted to him. Bawa stands tall as an example to prove that the people who go through poverty become refined personalities. The people of this region should shun religious bias and choose their legislators only on the basis of their humanity. They should elect Bawa in the coming days,” he said.
In response to the felicitation, Bawa noted that his fans had organized this function purely on the love and affection towards him, and not backed by any political overtones. “Belagere would have asked you to elect me as your representative, but I have no interest in politics. I will continue to hold human values high in my life,” he said.
