Udupi, Mar 5: The residents of Padubidri, near here, on Sunday March 4 decided to boycott the forthcoming bypoll of Udupi - Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency in protest against the proposed construction of the by-pass road during broadening of NH 66.
Chief minister (CM) D V Sadananda Gowda had given the green signal for construction of the by-pass road at Padubiri during the widening of the NH 66 from Suratkal to Kundapur. Gowda had opposed the proposal till he assumed charge as CM as he was an MP before. The locals' plea to elected representatives and officers have been in vain, alleged the local residents of Padubidri.
The locals cautioned the state administration that they will stage a judicial struggle against the proposal to construct a by-pass road at Padubidri, which was drawn up by three government officers advising that it was the last option while broadening NH 66.
