Dubai: Mukhyamantri Chandru to be Honoured with 'Dhwani Sriranga Prashasti'

Dubai, Mar 5: Renowned stage and cine artist Mukhyamanthri Chandru has been chosen for Dhwani Pratishthana's theatre award 'Srirnaga Ranga Prashasti' for the year 2011-2012.
Dhwani Pratishthana honours eminent Kannada theatre personalities every year with this award, which comprises cash reward and a memento. The award will be presented at 'Dhwani Rangasiri 2012', the 27th anniversary programme to be held at Emirates Theatre Auditorium, Dubai on Friday March 30 at 5.30 pm.
Mukhyamanthri Chandru is a well-known veteran actor who has been in the theatre field since 1970. A stage actor, director, stage technician and organiser, Mukhyamanthri Chandru has acted in more than 100 dramas and in more than 3000 shows. His role as mukhyamanthri in the play “Mukhyamanthri” Chandru has been so popular that it became part and parcel of his name in the later years.
He has worked under well-known directors B V Karanth, Prema Karanth, B V Rajaram, Prasanna, T N Seetharam among others. His roles in celebrated dramas like Mukhyamanthri, Garbhagudi, Bharatappana Sontakke gante, Kattala Dari, Taayi, Kelu Janamejaya, Nammolagobba Naajookayya etc have captured the imagination of all theatre lovers. He has directed more than fifteen plays. He has acted in more than four hundred fifty Kannada movies as well various type of roles.
Part of ‘Dhwani Ranga Siri -2012” Kannada play 'Ashadada Ondu Dina' by Prof Siddhalinga Pattanashetti (translation of famous Hindi playwright Mohan Rakesh’s –‘Ashad Ka Ek Din’) will also be staged. The play would be directed by Prakash Rao Payyar who has been pioneering quality Kannada theatre activity in UAE and local artistes Asha Correa, Pratima Shetty, Donald Correa, Prabhakar Kamath, Sudarshan Hegde, Lavina Fernades, Ashok Anchan, Santhosh Poojari, Sampath Shetty, Reshma Periera, Deepaa Rohit, Jagannath Bellare, Charles, Aishvarya will take up the lead roles in the drama.
