Mangalore: Preetham Upadhya Wins City Finale of 'India Spells 2012'

Mangalore, Mar 4: Preetham Upadhya from Sharada Vidyalaya School has won the Mangalore city finale of 'HDFC Life Spell Bee - India Spells 2012', the fourth edition of India’s largest spelling competition for school students, held on Sunday March 4 at Presidency School, Kelrai, Mangalore.
Preetham will compete with winners from 29 other cities at the national final scheduled to be held in Mumbai later.
Following an exciting battle of words among 18 schools in Mangalore, Sharada Vidyalaya School came out victorious. Vaishnavi Ballal of Sharada Vidyalaya school and Adithya Shetty of Presidency school, Kelrai were the runners-up.
More than 125 enthusiastic students from across the city participated in this preliminary city round reiterating the growing popularity of the HDFC Life Spell Bee-India Spells 2012 among students. G Thangadurai, director of Presidency Group of Schools, Bangalore and Mangalore graced the occasion as the chief guest for the evening and awarded the winner.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Tripathy, executive vice-president and head, marketing and direct channels, said, "I am extremely satisfied with the overwhelming response received in Mangalore for Spell Bee - India Spells 2012. This keenness clearly signifies the desire among young minds for improving their spelling, increasing their vocabularies, learning concepts, and developing the adequate use of correct English. As a result, children are able to read and write more effectively and score higher in standardized test and college prep tests and beyond. I congratulate Preetham on being adjudged the Mangalore city winner and wish him good luck for the grand finale."
