Mangalore, Mar 3: “The recent statement by Mangalore Urban Development Authority chairman Ramesh S who asserted that anybody with two cents land can have their own house was nothing but a wrong message passed on to the people in the city,” alleged KPCC secretary Ivan D’Souza while addressing a press conference held at the district Congress office on Saturday March 3.
At a press conference held at MUDA office recently, Ramesh had said that after the revised CDP project (Master Plan II) was put in place in June 2011, people are permitted to construct their houses on even two cents of land provided a three meter wide path leads to the land. The statement made the headlines in newspapers.
D’Souza said that in the revised CDP project which was implemented in June 2011, no amendments were made to differentiate it from the previous CDP project.
The chairman had claimed that if any proposal to widen the roads were before MUDA, no permission could be given in such places. D’Souza questioned how people can go ahead with constructing houses if there is a proposal for a 20 feet wide road in three feet wide lanes. “In the Master Plan of the MCC, it is clear that in almost all colonies there are proposals for widening of roads. Hence the ‘opportunity’ of constructing a house on two cents of land is impossible,” he added and alleged that the statement of the MUDA chairman was to mislead the public.
“In situations where people are not able to get the permission letter from MUDA even for a period of five to six months, the claim of MUDA chairman of a system of giving permission within 15 days should be practiced with immediate effect to keep up the assurance,” said D’Souza.
He was also furious at the MUDA chairman’s statement of compulsorily obtaining permission while dividing ancestral land. He said that it is against the law. D’Souza also urged the cancellation of the CDP revised project – 2 and implementation of the new Master Plan for the betterment of the people.
Former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde said that CDP projects are revised every 10 years, but the BJP administration is revising it without being time bound in a bid to favour the builders in city. He said CDP was revised in 2009, 2010, and again in 2011.
Corporator Gretta Rebello, former mayor Ashraf, leaders Praveenchandra Alva, and T K Sudhir were also present at the press meet.
