Mangalore, Mar 3: The annual day and graduation day celebrations of NUINS (Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences) was held on Thursday March 1, here. Chief guests for the evening were Justice Santhosh Hegde, Chancellor Dr Vinay Hegde and Vice Chancellor Dr Shantaram Shetty.
Along with the graduates, student achievers in the field of athletics were also honoured on the occasion. Paulson, Roshan, Jais, Amaldas and Princia have bagged first, second and third place respecticvely in events like relay, shot put, triple jump, discuss throw at the state level intercollegiate athletic meet conducted in May 2011. Tijo Jose and Paulson were awarded gold medal while Joyson and Deepu Ajay were awarded silver medal for the body building competition organized by RGUHS in November 2011. Tijo jose and Paulson were selected for the All-India Body building competition which was held at Amritsar on January 29. Paulson, Roshan, Avinash and Tijo won the bronze medal at the RGUHS intercollegiate athletic meet conducted at Chitradurga for events like 100 m run, long jump and relay.
A splendid cultural programme was followed after the stage programme. A folk dance was presented by the students, which was also performed by them at the National youth festival organized by Government of India in association with the Karnataka state government in January. The annual report of the Institute was also read.
The institute showed 99% results in the final year with four distinctions and 52 first classes for the UG program, 100% results for the Diploma program and 100 % results for the PG program.
Presently, there are more than 600 students pursuing four under graduation courses like Bachelors in Nursing, Diploma, post-basic BSC, certificate courses in Renal and Critical Care Nursing, PG courses with five specializations and PhD in nursing under Nitte University. Clinical training is rendered to the students through a fully fledged 715 bedded super specialty teaching hospital at KSHEMA.
Students are also encouraged to undertake research projects. Five student and three faculty projects were taken up in the year 2011 and all the student projects were funded by Nitte University. Presently 15 student projects and six staff projects are ongoing out of which eight are funded by Nitte University.
The Institute has been successful in organizing faculty enrichment programs. 10 CNEs, 10 in-service education programs, one national, two state level workshops were conducted for the year 2011. Three of the faculty memebers have also been registered for doctoral studies in nursing.
Nalini M, associate professor received the best scientific paper award in national conference of yoga for total health and D S Veerabhadra Swamy, assistant professor was awarded the best scientific poster award in international conference on “Complementary and Alternative Therapies in the Management of Psychiatric Disorder- Psychiatric Nursing Perspectives” at an ISPN conference conducted at Bhilai.
Runners up trophy was awarded by MMCA, Geetanjali and Railen was also awarded as the first runner up and was given the title 'most talented person'.
