Kasargod: Jewellery Theft by Women Handiwork of Inter-state Gang - Police

Kasargod, Mar 2: The theft of a ten-sovereign gold chain by a gang of three women from Sulthan Jewellery here on February 27 is the handiwork of an inter-state gang of jewellery thieves, the police said.
They have based this assumption on the basis of several earlier happenings. Two women had succeeded in taking away three sovereigns gold ornaments from Atlas Jewellery, Uppala, about six months back.
The same jewellery shop had lost eight sovereigns of gold in similar fashion two years ago. In the old case, two women, wearing Churidars, and posing as prospective buyers, had committed the theft. In the incident which occurred six months back, two burkha-clad women had committed the theft.
The jewellery shop has CCTV footage of the two women thieves who visited it six months back. The police find similarities in tactics and approach in this theft and the last week’s theft at Sulthan Jewellery. In both these cases, the women concerned were conversing in Hindi. The police feel that the same women have been stealing gold ornaments by disguising themselves.
Now, the police personnel are trying to pool together and compare such incidents which occurred in jewellery shops all over the state and border areas. They are verifying the video clips and finger prints recovered from the places concerned in an effort to zero in on the criminals.
