Udupi: Fanfare Precedes BJP Candidate's Filing of Nomination

Udupi, Feb 29: Sunil Kumar, Karnataka state BJP Yuva Morcha president and former Karkala MLA, who has been pitted by BJP against Congress candidate, Jayaprakash Hegde, and Boje Gowda of JD(S) in the Lok Sabha bypoll from Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency, filed his nomination papers with the returning officer and district deputy commissioner, M T Reju.
The filing took place at around 11.30 am on Wednesday February 29, which happens to be the last day for filing of nominations for this bypoll.
State Chief Minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, state BJP president, K S Eshwarappa, BJP general secretary and MP, H N Anant Kumar, district president of Udupi BJP, Uday Kumar Shetty, chairman of Finance Commission Recommendations Implementation Committee, A G Kodgi, MLA, Lalaji R Mendon, Coastal Development Authority chairman, B Nagaraja Hegde, son of B S Yeddyurappa and MP from Shimoga, B Y Raghavendra, and other leaders accompanied Sunil Kumar. The Chief Minister had especially made this trip to Udupi to be by the side of Kumar during filing of nomination papers.
Election will be conducted to choose successor to former MP and present CM, D V Sadananda Gowda, who earlier represented this constituency, on March 18.
An impressive crowd including local leaders proceeded from the district BJP office to the office of the returning officer with the official BJP candidate. Earlier in the day, a motor bike rally was conducted in Kumar’s support from Malpe to district BJP office here.
With the entry of Sunil, all three major political parties in the state have thrown in their gauntlets in this bypoll. The bypoll campaigning, which has been taken as a prestige issue by all the concerned parties, will likely turn out to be a high voltage affair, with national and state level leaders expected to take part in it.

Udupi, Feb 29: Sunil Kumar, BJP candidate for the upcoming Udupi-Chikmagalur bypoll, on Wednesday February 29 inaugurated BJP's office at Malpe.
A special puja was performed at Malpe Ayyappaswamy Temple.
Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat flagged off a bike rally on the occasion. The rally will held from BJP's Malpe office to its Kadiyali office, where a convention of party leaders and workers has been organized.
Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Kumar said that it was heartening to see such a huge rally being organized by BJP workers. He thanked them and said that like Raghupati Bhat he too would serve the people and respond to problems of fishermen. "Like him, I too will stand by you," he added.
Among those present were BJP's Kiran Kumar, Suresh Salian, Acchuta Amin, Hiriyanna Kidiyoor, Suresh Nayak, Yashpal Suvarna and others were present.
