Udupi: Adrenaline Runs High at Nandikoor Kambala

Udupi, Feb 27: Karnataka chief minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, promised to release grants of one lac rupees each to 24 Kambalas being held in the district. He said this is being done to encourage Kambala, a folklore game.
He was speaking after accepting the felicitation offered to him on behalf of Kambala Committee during his visit to Adve-Nandikoor Koti Chennaya Jodukare Kambala near Padubidri in the district, held on Sunday February 26.
Kaup MLA, Lalaji R Mendon, presided over the meeting. Aikala Harish Shetty, president of Mumbai Buntara Sangha, who has received Rajyotsava Award, was also honoured on the occasion.
Dozens of buffalo pairs participated in this traditional Kambala enthusiastically. The audience also participated in large numbers.
MLAs, Abhay Chandra Jain and Ramanath Rai, MLCs, Capt Ganesh Karnik and Kota Srinivas Poojary, zila panchayat president, Katapadi Shankar Poojary, Udupi taluk panchayat president, Devadas Hebbar, Karkala taluk panchayat president, Jayaram Salian, several Mumbai-based entrepreneurs, zilla panchayat members, taluk panchayat members, district BJP president, Uday Kumar Shetty and others were present.
Prof Gunapal Kadamba compered the programme.
