Mangalore: 'Khadi Utsava' Rejuvenates Village Industry

Mangalore, Feb 24: 'Khadi Utsava', an exhibition-cum-sale of khadi and village industrial products was inaugurated on Friday February 24 at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Pandeshwara here.
The exhibition, organized by Karnataka State Khadi and Village Industries Cell, Bangalore in association with industrial and commercial department Bangalore, was inaugurated by zilla panchayat president Shailaja Bhat.
A formal inaugural function was organized to mark the commencement of the exhibition. Shailaja Bhat, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president, Kalkura Pratishtana, S G Hegde, assistant director, district industrial centre (DIC), Indrajith Vikram Singh, central zonal member of KVIC, Somappa Naik, deputy director, KVIC, Gopal Rao, assistant director, DIC and Jyothi of DIC were present on the dais.
Shailaja Bhat in her address spoke about the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi to the development and uplifting of khadi industry.
Sellers from different parts of Karnataka were present in large numbers
Different varieties of food items like dry fruits, pickles, home products etc, footwear, khadi dress materials, saris, salwar materials, shirts, children's wear, kurthas, blankets, carpets, wooden and clay toys and show pieces, decoratives, ayurvedic medicines, fancy items etc are available at the exhibiton-cum-sale, which will end on March 4.
