Udupi, Feb 23: The preliminary meeting in connection with Udupi-Chikmagalur parliamentary by-elections was convened by the district administration at ZP auditorium, Manipal, here on Wednesday February 22.
DC Dr Reju urged the officers to take necessary action in clearing the buntings, banners, flags etc found in public places, as they are banned during the by-elections. The election posters will not be allowed to be displayed in the public places, he said.
Dr Reju instructed the officers to appoint sector officers and electronic voting machines (EVM) operators to set the machines for polling. He also informed that Indian Electioneering Commission will depute three overseers.
He also urged the general public to report any case of breach of model code of conduct to the district administration and tahsildar. The district officers will have to be stationed at headquarters and are only allowed to go out with the permission of district electioneering officer, he said.
Chikmagalur DC D K Rangaswamy, SP Boralingayya, Chikmagalur SP Shashi Kumar, Udupi ZP chief executive officer S A Prabhakar Sharma, deputy secretary D Pranesh Rao, Udupi additional deputy commissioner Kumar, Chikmagalur additional district commissioner K P Honakeri, assistant electioneering officers and Tahsildars of Udupi – Chikmagalur parliamentary constituency were present at the occasion.
One nomination filed for parliamentary bypoll
Sridhar Pedemane was the first to submit his nomination papers as an independent candidate for Udupi-Chikmagalur parliamentary by-elections, on Wednesday February 22.
The last date for submitting nomination papers is Wednesday February 29. The review of nomination papers will be held on Thursday March 1. The last date for withdrawing nomination papers will be Saturday March 3, informed the DC.
