Mysore: Writer S L Bhyrappa Chosen for Rare Honour

Mysore, Feb 22: Famous Kannada novelist, S L Bhyrappa, has been chosen for ‘Vagvilasini Puraskar’ instituted in memory of the late Master Deenanath Mangeshkar by Deenanath Memorial Foundation, Pune. The award is given annually to people with special achievements to their credit, and normally people who have worked in Marathi language are chosen for the award.

Bhyrappa has been chosen, considering his contribution to the field of literature. The award will be conferred on the writer at a function being held at Shanmukhananda Hall in Mumbai on April 24. The award, comprising of citation and Rs 1,01,001 in cash, will be handed over by singing legend, Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, a release by the foundation said.

It is learnt that the award, being given since the last two decades, is being given to a person from outside Maharashtra for the first time.

    It is heartening to know that Dr SL Bhyrappa is ed for yet another award.Hearty Congratulations to Dr Bhyrappa. His contribution to the literary world is immense.But, it is quite surprising as to why his name was not chosen for Jnanapeeta award ???
