Beltangady: Education Department Official Commits Suicide

Beltangady, Feb 21: Antony D Castelino (46), serving as the cluster resource person in the department of education, allegedly committed suicide at his residential quarters in Ujire in the taluk on the evening of Monday February 20. He was the resource person for Ujire division.

Castelino was a native of Kukkundoor in Karkala taluk. Reportedldy, he took this extreme step on account of personal problems. It is gathered that his wife, working as lecturer in SDM College in Ujire, was away at her parental home, when the incident occurred.

The deceased has served the education department for 17 years. He had earlier worked at government schools in Siddabail and Parari villages. He is survived by two daughters, studying in second and fifth standards respectively.

A number of dignitaries including president of Karnataka Primary School Teachers’ Association’s Beltangady taluk unit, Dharanendra Jain, and secretary, Tirumaleshwar Bhat, visited the home of Castelino and consoled grieving family members.

    Being a resource person in the education department, he could not do such things rather he should have been taught good things in life. May his soul rest in peace
