Mangalore, Feb 20: The varado sammelan of Catholic Sabha Episcopal city varado was held on Sunday February 19 at Milagres P U College Hall at 9 am. The chief guest of the function was Dr Victor Machado, parish priest of St Francis Xavier Church Bejai.
The function was inaugurated by Walter Cyril Pinto, president of Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh. The function was presided over by the president of the Catholic sabha Episcopal city varado Joseph Nazareth. Fr Stany Goveas, spiritual director, parish priest and varado vicar of Rozario church was on the dais.
The resource persons for the day were Mariamma K Thomas, advocate and corporater of Mangalore Maha Nagara Palike and Jerardin D’Souza - Special invitee for Christian development fund committee. Nigel Pereira, vice president and Flavy D’Souza assistant secretary, Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh. Francis D’Souza and Francis Crasta, president and secretary of Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pranthya. Varado secretary Benedicta D’souza and presidents of 11 parish units were present.
After the prayer song, Gospel reading and brief reflection was conducted, the varado president Joseph Nazareth welcomed the guest, followed by inauguration of the function by Walter Cyril Pinto. In his address, he stressed how best could the units function in coordination with the varado to reap the required results. The chief guest was introduced by Kishore Fernandes followed by the address of the chief guest. In his speech he explained the purpose of the Catholic Sabha and how best they could perform to justify their membership in the organization and what best they could do in the service of the society and fellow men. The report of the varado and units activities was read by the secretary. Thereafter, message by varado Spiritual director followed by address by the president, who gave basic hints how to increase the membership. He also called upon the units to perform well, as they are the roots of the organizations, and if the roots are strong the tree would grow well and wide spread its branches all over. A vote of thanks was rendered by the vice president.
In the second session Mariamma K Thomas spoke on local political scenario at the corporate level. She was introduced by Gretta Coelho. The
other resource person Jerardin D’Souza spoke on the subject of various government schemes those are available for the Christian minorities and how best the benefits could availed of by the deserving eligible members. He was introduced by Deepak D’Souza.
In the third session there was Holy Mass celebrated by very Fr Stany Goveas. This was followed by cultural programme and games.
