Madikeri, Feb 18: Swastik (8), and Ekant (6), students of Sandeepani School in Somwarpet in the district were thrown into a pond by their mother late evening on Wednesday February 15. Their mother, Kavita (28), also jumped into the pond. All three died instantly.
The incident occurred at Haraga village near Somwarpet. Swastik and Ekannt, children of Prakash and Kavita, used to study in Somwarpet, by staying in a house as guests. Both of the children had been sent to their village by bus on Wednesday to visit their ailing grandmother. Prakash had taken his mother to a hospital located far away to get treatment, when got a call over his phone from his wife on Wednesday evening, informing him that she had decided to commit suicide. Prakash reportedly admonished her for such foolish thoughts.
But when Prakash returned home in the evening, he was worried to see that his wife and children had gone missing. The villagers, who grew suspicious, then emptied water from the pond located in the fields, upon which the bodies of the three were found clutched together at the bottom of the pond.
Police circle inspector, Krishnaiah, and other personnel, visited the spot thereafter. A case was registered in Somwarpet police station.
