Beltangady, Feb 17: A delegation from the Bar Association met the Tahsildar here on Thursday February 16 and urged the taluk panchayat administration to streamline their working and to make it people-friendly.
The delegation explained to the Tahsildar about the rampant corruption among the staff at taluk office, missing files, and delays in clearing files. They said that a lawyer who sought some information was disrespected by the staff.
The delegation alleged that one cannot get any task done without greasing the palms of the staff. The general public has to face unnecessary delays in completing their urgent tasks. They also said that there are a few staff members who cheat people in the name of the Tahsildar.
Tahsildar Kusuma Kumari clarified that the segregation of files in the taluk office is in progress by restricting the people from entering the records room. “Touts have been banned from entering the taluk office. The general public can easily approach the staff and report to her if any staff seeks bribes to get their tasks done. The deputy Tahsildar will provide all the necessary information related to status of files to the people. All these steps are being taken to curb corruption,” she clarified.
Over 30 lawyers, including Bar Association president Shiva Kumar, secretary Vasant Marakada, B K Dhananjay Rao, Xavier Paleli, Santosh, Shivayya, Ganesh, Subramanya Kumar P S, Agarta Subramanya Kumar, Aloysius Lobo, Sasikiran Jain, J K Paul, Keshav Belalu and Ratna Varma Bunnu held discussions with Tahsildar Kusuma Kumari for about two hours.
