Media Release

Mangalore, Feb 16: Major General (Retd) Ian Cardozo AVSM FM visited St Joseph's Engineering College campus on Tuesday February 14 on the occasion of the 'Foundation Day' of the College. The foundation stone was laid 10 years ago on the same day by Archbishop Alphonsus Mathias.

Before rendering the foundation day oration before an august gathering of leading citizens of Mangalore and well wishers of the College, he addressed the students of the College on the theme 'leadership and motivation'. “ You must be a tiger among sheep, not a sheep among the tigers,”, he advised the students. Recounting tales of valour during the Kargil and Bangladesh wars, he placed before the students the virtue of Love, love for the country and how qualities in leadership can motivate a youngster to develop integrity of character.

There was great appreciation of not only the speech, but also of the person who became a war hero after getting hurt in the leg in the enemy territory and when it became necessary to amputate the leg, there being no surgeon and no anesthesia, he amputated his own leg with his army knife.

Major General Ian Cardozo is presently the chairman of the National Rehabilitation Council in New Delhi.
