Mangalore, Feb 13: Corporate Affairs minister Dr M Veerappa Moily said that Mangalore has the potential to become the second commercial capital of India after Mumbai, and that the country is marching forward in trade and export activities in a rapid manner since January 2012.
He spoke after inaugurating ‘Export Vision 2020’, a conclave of all state exporters organized by the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) at TMA Pai Hall on Monday February 13.
He added that 90 percent of the big corporate companies have felt India to be the best place for their operations. "The GDP of the country which is 85 trillion dollars now could grow up to 97 trillion dollars in 39 years, while China will attain 80.2 trillion dollars and USA 39.07 trillion dollars. The credibility of India should not be written off, and co-operation from exporters and others sectors is needed," he said and added, "Education should be designed keeping the future prospects of the country in mind."
He also asserted that no one should try to be in the comfort zone thereby killing the potentiality of export trade opportunities in India.
Later, speaking on the sidelines of the programme Dr Moily said that he has written a letter to the chief minister asking him to convene a meeting to notify the land acquired for the second phase of MSEZ which was earlier denotified. He sought the cooperation of the media in facilitating the materialization of important projects in the state.
"Since there is no nuclear fuel or any other source for generating power, importing coal was the only option. Hence, such alternatives should be supported, while also taking environmental concerns into consideration," he said. He also said that in the coming budget priority will be given to export sector by the state government.
