Mangalore, Feb 8: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has given a call for the closure of all the engineering colleges in Karnataka on February 8, demanding dismissal of tainted vice chancellor (VC) of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Dr Maheshappa.
Addressing a press conference in the city on Tuesday February 7, Mangalore division organizing secretary of ABVP, Ramesh K, said that it has been proved that Dr Maheshappa had provided wrong information to the state Governor to get himself chosen for the post of VC. “The VC, who should have resigned on moral grounds, is not right in continuing in office. He should resign forthwith,” he demanded.
He felt that the court had observed that the VC had committed offence, before asking the Governor to take action, adding that there is no reason for holding another inquiry. “It appears that the Governor is shielding the VC. Maheshappa should be removed without delay. Otherwise, ABVP will be resorting to stronger measures of protest,” he added.
ABVP district joint convener, Mahesh, city unit convener, Keertesh, and city unit secretary, Yatish, were present at the press conference.
