Udupi, Feb 3: The city-based Dr Paduru Gururaja Bhat Memorial Trust chose Dr N Jayaram, professor of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, for the ‘Dr Paduru Gururaja Bhat Memorial Award–2011’.
The Award will be conferred on Dr N Jayaram during a function scheduled to be held in the banquet hall of Raj Bhavan, Bangalore, by Governor Dr Hansaraj Bharadwaj at 5.00 pm on Saturday February 11. The award comprises Rs 50,000 in cash.
Dr Marpalli Govind Rao, member, economic advisory council to PM and director of National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, retired Justice K Jagannat Shetty and education expert Professor K E Radhakrishna will be the guests of honour on the occasion.
Dr Jayaram is one of the leading sociologists in the country. He has 14 books to his credit and more than 200 articles published in professional journals of national and international repute. He is a member of a number of associations and committees at the national and international level, related to sociology. Dr Jayaram was the past director of the Institute of Social and Economic Change, Bangalore. He earned his PhD from Bangalore University and joined as a professor in the department of sociology. He hails from Udupi district.
