Udupi, Jan 27: Deputy commissioner of the district, M T Reju, inaugurated an exhibition of 16 art works of Raja Ravivarma created by local artist, Praveena Mohan, on Thursday January 26.
The exhibition, which is on at ‘Drishti’ art gallery here, also has 24 photographs clicked by senior photojournalist, Astro Mohan. These photographs relate to the topic, ‘Udupi’.
Reju wished that more such art exhibitions, lectures, and workshops will be held in the town.
Chief executive officer of Ekam Candles, Manipal, Vanita Pai, participated as chief guest. She said that such exhibitions are a necessity. U Ramesh Rao, president of Artists Forum, which has organized this exhibition, presided over the inaugural.
Rao urged the government to declare photography, which is a form of visual art, as an art form. He also wanted setting up of a separate academy for photography on the lines of Karnataka Lalitakala Academy and Shilpakala Academy, and institution of awards for photographers.
Astro Mohan welcomed. Secretary of the forum, Saku Pangala, presented the programme. Praveena Mohan was present. A release said that the exhibition will be open for the public viewing till 7 pm till January 29.
