Puttur: Clash Erupts at Hindu Samajotsava - Police Resort to Lathi Charge

Puttur, Jan 22: The Hindu Samajotsava organised at Chatrapati Shivaji maidan, Uppinangady near here on Sunday January 22 took an ugly turn when a group protested against the programme, alleging that provocative speeches had been made at the Samajotsava.
When the participants of the Samajotsava were returning after the programme, a group is said to have intersected them and protested against the speakers. They resorted to stone pelting, and the police had to use lathi charge to bring the situation under control.
The incident occured near Uppinangady bus stand.
Subramanya police station SI called upon the mob to maintain peace and things almost retuned to normalcy, but soon, another round of heated arguments and stone pelting followed by lathi charge occured.
Groups belonging to two different communities assembled in their respective religious centres.
The police were able to bring the situation under control. Superintendent of police Abhishek Goyal visited the spot. Around 500 personnel of the reserved police force have been deployed, and more will be brought in.
