Maharajganj, Apr 5: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, during a one-day tour of Maharajganj, hailed the recent passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill, asserting that it would end unlawful land encroachments carried out under the guise of waqf ownership.
“Encroachments in the name of Waqf Board will no longer be tolerated,” he declared while addressing a public gathering. He emphasized that the revised law would ensure waqf properties are now directed toward meaningful public initiatives—like schools, hospitals, housing projects, and infrastructure such as barrages.
On the auspicious occasion of Ashtami during Vasanti Navratri, CM Yogi also paid respects at the Maa Banailiya Devi shrine, underscoring the cultural importance of his visit.

In a significant boost to regional development, he inaugurated and laid the foundation for 629 projects worth ?654 crore, including the long-awaited Rohin Barrage. This major irrigation and flood-control project, delayed for over two decades, is set to be renamed in honor of Maa Banailiya Devi. Yogi noted that the barrage would not only aid farmers but also open avenues for tourism and job creation.
Setting an ambitious vision for the future, the Chief Minister pledged to eradicate poverty from Uttar Pradesh within three years, aiming to make it India’s top-performing state. Reflecting on the progress made under his leadership, he highlighted the state's economic leap—from the seventh-largest in 2017 to now the second-largest in the country.
Yogi also spotlighted completed mega-projects like the Saryu Canal Project, which had been languishing since 1972 and saw completion only under the BJP government.
In the education sector, he showcased initiatives like Atal Residential Schools for laborers' children and Chief Minister Composite Schools in every development block. "Earlier, each district had a mafia; now, each has a medical college," he stated, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Law and order improvements, once a major concern during festive seasons, were also emphasized. “Uttar Pradesh is now a state where festivals are celebrated in peace, not fear,” he said.
Reinforcing his government's commitment to welfare, Yogi spoke about empowerment efforts for farmers, women, and youth. He noted that diseases like encephalitis, dengue, and malaria are now under control thanks to concerted public health efforts.
In terms of local development, CM Yogi announced new gaushalas, increased dairy production, and upcoming facilities like a Kendriya Vidyalaya and sports stadium for Maharajganj. He also praised the district’s lead under the Chief Minister Yuva Udyami Yojana, where 1,000 youths have received interest-free loans.
The push to promote Kala Namak rice, Sri Anna, natural farming, and fisheries also reflects a broader vision of rural and agri-based economic upliftment.
The visit combined cultural reverence, bold developmental promises, and a firm stance on governance—marking another chapter in the Yogi government’s outreach across Uttar Pradesh.
