Udupi, Mar 2: Deputy chief minister (DyCM) D K Shivakumar visited the protesters demanding a fair enquiry into the Brahmavar Sugar Factory scrap sale scam.

The Udupi Zilla Raitha Sangha, led by former Speaker Prathapchandra Shetty, has been staging an indefinite strike in Brahmavar, seeking a thorough investigation into the scam.

During his visit to Udupi district on Sunday, March 2, D K Shivakumar met the protestors at the Brahmavar Sugar Factory site and received their memorandum. Prathapchandra Shetty and former MP Jayaprakash Hegde presented the protestors' demands and explained the issue to the deputy chief minister.

Addressing the protestors, D K Shivakumar said, "Our government has already sanctioned an enquiry. The district in-charge minister requested me to visit the protestors at the site and receive their memorandum. The law is equal for all. I will support your demands on lawful grounds. The home department and the cooperation ministry will address the issue with a written statement. Many members of the general public have also been participating in the protest over the past week. I am receiving daily updates about the protest. I will personally discuss the issue with the chief minister and the home minister and will chair a meeting regarding the same. The government will take the issue seriously and strive to deliver justice. It would be good if the protest is called off after this.”

KPCC Campaign Committee president Vinay Kumar Sorake, Udupi deputy commissioner Dr Vidyakumari, Udupi District Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, and Congress leaders Prasadraj Kanchan, Muniyal Udaykumar Shetty, MA Gaffur, and others were present.
