Media Release

Udupi, Feb 12: Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Health Commission of diocese of Udupi and Indian cancer society is organising a mega health camp and basic life support training camp. The camp will be held on Sunday, Feb 16 at Tri-Centenary Hall of Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur from 8:30 am to 1 pm.

One of the key highlights of the event is the free cancer screening camp, organised by the department of community medicine, KMC, Manipal. The screening will focus on breast and cervical cancer for women and oral cancer for both men and women. This initiative aims to promote early detection, which is crucial in improving treatment outcomes. The screening is open to individuals aged 30 to 55 years, with a limit of 50 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Alongside cancer screenings, the event will feature Basic Life Support (BLS) Training, conducted by the department of emergency medicine, KMC, Manipal. This hands-on training will educate participants on CPR techniques, recognising early signs of heart attacks and strokes, and managing choking emergencies. The session will be led by Dr Prithvishree, associate professor, KMC, Manipal, and Dr Rachana, assistant professor, KMC, Manipal. With cardiovascular diseases being a leading cause of mortality, this training will equip attendees with crucial life-saving skills.

Additionally, the centre for diabetic footcare and research, MCHP, MAHE Manipal, will conduct screening for body composition and sarcopenia, a condition characterized by the loss of muscle mass and strength, which is common among aging individuals. These screenings will help assess participants' overall health and provide necessary guidance for preventive measures.

The event is being supported by several organisations, including the health commission, Milagres Cathedral; Goretti Hospital, Kallianpur; Catholic Sabha & Stree Sanghatan, Milagres Cathedral; Rotary Club Manipal Town, Manipal; and Rotary Club, Kallianpur.

Participants attending the health camp are requested to bring their Aadhaar card for verification. Those interested in cancer screening can book an appointment by calling 9945271585, 9964643260, 9880491530, or 9880032807.

This mega health camp is a significant step toward promoting preventive healthcare and emergency preparedness. It offers community members an opportunity to undergo essential health screenings and gain life-saving skills under the guidance of renowned medical professionals from Manipal. Organisers encourage residents to take advantage of this free health initiative to prioritise their well-being and equip themselves with essential emergency response skills.
