Udupi, Jan 29: Jeevitha, a class 9 student of SMS English Medium School, Brahmavar, brought pride to Karnataka by representing the state at the 31st National Children's Science Congress, held in Bhopal from January 3-6.
She presented an impressive research project titled 'Documentation of Wild Edible Fruits from the Surrounding Area of Brahmavar', which earned high praise from experts and attendees.
Alongside her teammate, Saanvi Bangera, also from class 9, Jeevitha identified and documented 21 varieties of wild edible fruits, many of which were previously unknown to a broader audience. Their research highlighted the region’s rich biodiversity and the potential benefits of these lesser-known fruits.
Jeevitha and Saanvi Bangera had earlier received the ‘Young Scientist’ award for their science project presented at state Children's Science Congress 2024 held in Sedam, Kalaburgi.
The project was mentored by faculty member Fathima Laveena D'Souza, whose guidance helped the students conduct extensive fieldwork and research.
