Mangalore, Jan 2: Dinesh Saphaliga (25), a native of Melkar in Bantwal taluk, was killed after he got crushed under the wheels of a tipper on Sunday January 1. The accident occurred at Hunsikatte in Tenka Yekkar near Bajpe in the taluk.
Dinesh was riding on the pillion of a motor bike that was being driven by Jayant, his cousin. Jayant, who was preparing to undertake pilgrimage to Sabarimala, had come to Kateel to offer prayers there, along with Dinesh. While returning from the temple, the bike Jayant was riding, hit a tipper that was coming from the opposite direction at a road bend at Hunsikatte. Because of the impact of the collision, Dinesh was thrown to the road. His head got instantly crushed under the wheels of the tipper, causing his death.
The accident resulted in traffic block on state highway 67 for some time, before Bajpe policemen came on the scene and streamlined movement of vehicles. Dinakar Shetty, police inspector of the station, made arrangements for the transportation of the mortal remains and completing other legal formalities.
Dinesh was the eldest son of Lakshman and Pushpavati couple from Melkar. He used to work for a furniture shop in Talapady.
