Mumbai, Dec 29: Kannada BMC School, Powai, Andheri (East), founded through the efforts of Powai Kannada Seva Sangh, will celebrate its decennial on Saturday December 31.
The activists of Powai Kannada Sangh had visited nearly 500 families in the neighbourhood of Powai, convincing the parents to enroll their children at Kannada BMC School. Powai Kannada Sangh provided uniforms and books to both primary and high school students studying in Kannada medium across the metro. They also provided free bus service to students of Kannada School in neighbouring Pereirawady.
Renowned dramatist Sadanand Suvarna inaugurated Powai Kannada BMC School on June 12 2001, and the metro’s renowned Kannada litterateur Dr Sunita Shetty opened the classes by writing Kannada alphabets on the blackboard.
Block education officer Panduranga Patil, metro’s Kannada activist Dr Sanjeev Shetty, school uniform donor Srinivas Karkera, and school governing council president Annappa T Poojary were present on the occasion.
Vasant Ail was the first teacher at Powai Kannada BMC School. Ajit Byadagi serves as head teacher, Prakash Mali and Laxman Mali and three teachers appointed by Mumbai Mahanagar Palika are presently serving the students. Teachers Yashoda S Poojary and Praveeni D Salian are teaching extra-curricular activities. Praveeni had created a record by securing 90 percent in B A (Kannada). Dramatist Nagaraj Gurpur is heading the education department.
BEST buses are plying along the route of Powai Kannada BMC School through the efforts of Annappa Poojary. Suleiman Kulavoor, Sudhakar Poojary, R G Shetty and D K Shetty are striving for the excellence of the school.
