Moodbidri: National Inter-Varsity Women’s Ball Badminton Tourney to Begin on Dec 27

Moodbidri, Dec 26: All India Inter University Women’s Ball Badminton Championship will be organized under the joint aegis of Mangalore University and Alva’s College at Vidyagiri from Tuesday December 27 to Friday December 30.

Six stadiums have been readied for the purpose and final preparations are on full swing. Four teams have arrived in Moodbidri ahead of the sports event—Annamalai University team from Tamil Nadu, MGS team from Rajasthan, Jalagaon team from North Maharashtra, and Gurunanak University team from Amritsar, Punjab, have already registered. About 70 university teams are expected to participate in the sports meet.
 
The inauguration will be on Tuesday at 9 am. ‘Star of India’ award winner B N Meera will inaugurate the championship. Mangalore University vice chancellor Prof T C Shivashankar Moorthy will preside.

Karnataka Ball Badminton Association secretary Mohammed Ilyas, and retired physical director Mohandas Shanbaug will be the guests. Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva will preside over the award ceremony scheduled to be held on Friday at 4.30 pm. Mangalore University registrar Dr K Chinnappa Gowda will hand over the awards. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Karnataka Ball Badminton Association president Prakash Hebbal, and Dr K V Shenoy will participate.
