Mangaluru, Dec 13: Proper maintenance of parks is essential to ensure they remain safe, accessible, and enjoyable public spaces. Neglected parks can lead to issues such as deteriorating infrastructure, unsafe conditions, and more.

The Mallikatte Library Park, which underwent a complete transformation at a cost of Rs 70 lac, is now in a state of neglect due to poor maintenance. On January 26, Daijiworld reported on the park’s transformation, but after 11 months, it lies in a deteriorating condition, highlighting the failure of local authorities to maintain it.

The public has expressed anger over the park’s current state. Litter is scattered throughout the park due to the absence of dustbins. Seats are covered with crow droppings, and dead rats have been spotted in the area. The Late Kadri Gopalanath Memorial within the park is also neglected, with the saxophone sculpture rusting and showing visible signs of decay.

It appears that after the park’s transformation, the responsible authorities failed to ensure its upkeep. What was intended to be a space for relaxation and leisure has now become an eyesore.

This situation reflects a broader issue where district administrations and authorities initiate projects such as park renovations, pond rejuvenations, and public circle constructions at significant costs. However, once these projects are completed and inaugurated, there is often no follow-up maintenance, leading to their gradual decline.

The failure to maintain parks can be attributed to factors such as inadequate funding, poor management, neglect, and competing priorities within local governance. Over time, this neglect transforms parks into abandoned or misused spaces.

Addressing this issue requires a comprehensive approach involving sufficient funding, regular inspections, public participation, and sustainable management practices to preserve these vital community spaces.

A lot of time-- energy -- divisive politics over religion -- Yes, faith essential -- but having a clear mind is also essential -- reading good books -- good environment -- walks/ exercise all help building an individual -- But this does not get votes-- this is the crux and tragedy -- We can safely say -- who has travelled abroad /observed---- even small countries -- and islands -- SriLankan -- Bali -- Dubai -- etc. etc. -- cleanliness is what one can observe -- people are disciplined -- However most Indian cities -- villages are the dirtiest -- except inside campuses -- residences --Hotels so on ---- WHY it is not possible here -despite all propaganda -- SWATCH BHARAT -- using Gandhi etc. -- cleanliness not in our DNA -- within India -- outside all follow rules ----- In Singapore making the City State clean -- it happened initially with painful lashings - -canings -- and Fines/ penalties- -- i,e who did not follow rules-- --Singapore Was hence known as FINE CITY -- That is how the City STATE became one of the cleanest in the world -- -- -we need a dose of fines and lashings/canings -- -- 1 inch diameter bamboo stick --

What a royal waste of public funds. This park was a pleasant change in this part of the city & many would come to relax and give their children some fun time without having to face large crowds. Unfortunately it has become an eye sore now & one wouldn't want to set foot into this park. I hope this article reaches the concerned authorities & opens their eyes to the condition to make necessary arrangements to clean up the place, put regular maintenance checks in place & give the citizens a clean park once again. Daijiworld please cover this in a video to hold those responsible for waste of funds and non-maintenance of public properties.

What is the problem? It is not like people have voted to develop libraries. The MLA's I think have better national responsibilities and to save People from even grave danger and need to be rescued. And look at the positive side. So many people are now entering below poverty line. So atleast they can use the place to sleep at night
