Udupi: Legendary playwright B V Karanth's brother, renowned singer B Krishna passes away

Udupi, Dec 12: B Krishna Karanth, a celebrated singer and the younger brother of the late B V Karanth, an iconic theatre personality, passed away on Thursday, December 12 afternoon at KMC Hospital, Manipal. He was 76.

A retired employee of the Regional Research Centre (RRC) at MGM College, Udupi, Krishna Karanth was widely admired for his exceptional singing talent. His music programs and cassette recordings enjoyed immense popularity. A devoted member of Rangabhoomi Udupi, he not only performed in its plays but also contributed as a background singer for many theatre productions.

Recently, Rangabhoomi Udupi had honored him for his invaluable contributions to cultural and theatrical arts. His steadfast support and encouragement for all Rangabhoomi activities left an indelible mark on the community. His demise is a profound loss to the fields of music and theatre.

The public can pay their respects at his residence in Kidiyoor, Udupi, on December 13 after 11:30 am. The final rites will be held at Indrali crematorium, Udupi, at 6:30 pm, following the arrival of his son from abroad, as per family sources.

Krishna Karanth is survived by his wife, two sons, and a large circle of relatives and admirers. Rangabhoomi Udupi has expressed its heartfelt condolences on over talented artiste's demise.
