Puttur: Accused arrested for mobile tower battery theft

Puttur, Dec 8: Sampya police personnel, led by CPI Ravi B S, have arrested an individual accused of stealing a battery from the Airtel mobile tower at Mapalekochi on Bulerikatte-Saaja Road in Balnadu village.

The accused, Harish Naika (30), a resident of Vagga in Kavalamudoor village, Bantwal taluk, is now in police custody. The theft occurred on November 19, and a complaint was registered at Sampya police station the same day.

During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had also stolen a battery in the Konaje police station limits. Police have confiscated 24 battery cells worth Rs 48,000, a car valued at Rs 2.5 lac used in the crime, and two mobile phones from the accused.

The operation was conducted by a team comprising Sampya police station inspector Jambooraj B Mahajan, investigation department SI Sushma G Bhandary, ASI Murugesh B, head constables Praveen, Harish, and Sharif, along with constables Chandrashekhara, Sharanappa, Nagesh, Divakar, and Sampath.
