Mangaluru, Dec 7: The CEN police in Mangaluru have successfully apprehended a New Delhi-based cyber fraudster who cheated a local resident by sending an APK file and later hacking his Flipkart account.
The accused, Gaurav Makwan (25), is currently in police custody. He was produced in court and sent to judicial custody.
Makwan allegedly sent a VAHANPARIVAHAN.apk file to the WhatsApp of Yadunandan, a local resident. Believing the file to be from the RTO, Yadunandan downloaded it, which led to his Flipkart account being hacked. The fraudsters used his debit and credit cards to make purchases, including two mobile phones, an earphone, and a gift voucher worth Rs 1.31 lac.
Police have recovered two Android phones, five iPhone 15S mobile handsets, two earphones, and the mobile phone used in the fraud. The total value of the confiscated goods is Rs 4 lac. During the investigation, it was revealed that Makwan, along with other fraudsters, has cheated several people.
PSI Gurappa Kanti and PC Tippa Reddy of the CEN police station arrested Makwan within 48 hours of the crime in New Delhi. The investigation, led by ACP Ravish Nayak, is ongoing as police are working to apprehend other suspects.
