Udupi: Nitin Gadkari orders inspection of black spots on NH-66 to address safety concerns

Udupi, Dec 6: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has ordered an immediate inspection of accident-prone areas along National Highway 66 (NH-66), following concerns raised by Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojari over poor infrastructure design.

In a meeting with the minister, Poojari highlighted key problem areas, including Nanthoor Junction in Mangaluru, the Ambalpady flyover in Udupi, and the underpass near Brahmavar Akashvani junction. These sites have become notorious for traffic snarls and accidents, causing major inconvenience to commuters.

Poojari called for a high-level engineering committee to review these issues and recommend corrective actions, including the reconstruction of problematic infrastructure along the highway.

Gadkari instructed officials to inspect these black spots, gather video reports, and provide a comprehensive analysis. He also assured that funds from the Central Road Fund (CRF) would be allocated to address road repairs in Brahmavar, Kota, and Kundapura.

The minister urged the swift completion of key projects like the Kalyanpura-Santhekatte stretch and Indrali bridge, which are vital to easing traffic flow in the region.

The meeting was attended by several local leaders, including Lok Sabha members Brijesh Chowta, Manjunath, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, businessman G Shankar, and BJP leader Suresh Nayak.

With great difficulty they managed some show pictures, thats it! Udupi MLA may not be commuting in state roads....where the roads are pathetic with full pot holes, same case with other MLA constitutions such as Kaup, Brahmavara and Karkala! No one can hep illuminate steet lights in NH 66. There are poles but no power connection....intencity of head lights from other direction is unbarable. Wish people in above picture drive from Udupi - mangalore on a rainy night!! Im sure they fear their life withpout street lights!! No idea where road divider is! Why people are not fighting????

We want to see discussions and progress focused solely on the development of our Tulunadu districts—nothing else. Kudos to the MPs of both constituencies for their efforts in this regard!

"Forget about the black spots and white spots; do something about NH16 where many lives are being lost. Talk less and focus more on the work."

Please fly him to Bangalore and then ask him to take a road trip to Mangalore. Some Santhe pass in Udupi solved will not solve our problem. We need 6 lane drive from Mangalore to Bangalore, Mysore and Karwar.
