Mangaluru, Dec 4: Mangaluru International Airport once again faced a bomb threat after an email was received on November 30, claiming that a bomb had been planted in the terminal. The threat was sent from an email ID named Akram Vaikar around 10 am, prompting immediate security measures.
The CISF personnel, along with airport staff, conducted thorough searches across the terminal and other areas of the airport. However, no explosives were found during the inspection. A case has been registered at the Bajpe police station, and an investigation is underway.
The email reportedly included demands related to two controversial cases in Tamil Nadu. It called for the withdrawal of cases against drug kingpin Zafar Sadiq and Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, a film producer and wife of Tamil Nadu's deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. The email also demanded the release of S Maran, the leader of the Tamil Nadu Liberation Army (TNLA), who is currently imprisoned in Tiruchi Central Jail.
Authorities have noted similarities between this incident and a previous bomb threat on October 25 targeting three hotels in Tirupati, which also referenced Zafar Sadiq and Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi. Given the Tamil Nadu-related demands, investigators suspect the involvement of individuals from that state.
