Margao, Dec 15: “Tiatr artistes of yesteryears underwent numerous hardships in order to preserve and promote tiatr. They sacrificed for the love of tiatr and not for any monitory gains”, said Digambar Kamat, Chief Minister of Goa.
He was speaking as a chief guest at a function held to celebrate the 140th Birth Anniversary of the Father of Tiatr – Joao Agostinho Fernandes at Ravindra Bhavan here on Wednesday December 14.
Organized by Tiatr Academy Goa in collaboration with Ravindra Bhavan Margao, nine veteran tiatr artistes were presented with ‘Lifetime Contribution to Tiatr Awards’ at the hands of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. Digambar Kamat on this occasion. The tiatr artistes felicitated on the occasion are John Claro Fernandes, Abdonio Rodrigues, Josinho D’Souza, Eusebia Feliciana Fernandes alias Sabina, Kamlakant Chari, Jack Souza Ferrao, Beatrice Josephine Fernandes alias Betty Naz, Shrirang P. Narvekar and Andre Eduardo Roque Mascarenhas alias Eddie Mascarenhas. Shri. Tony Sax, a popular tiatr artiste of yester years was the Guest of Honour.
Speaking further, Kamat appreciated the work done by Tiatr Academy Goa for the improvement of tiatr in the state of Goa. Referring to thirty and odd schemes formulated by TAG, for the all round development of tiatr, the Chief Minister stated that the tiatr is bound to go to higher heights in times to come. He congratulated the president of TAG, Tomazinho Cardozo and his team for doing a constructive work in the promotion of tiatr.
Earlier Tomazinho Cardozo, president of TAG in his address explained in brief the work done by TAG for the promotion, preservation and development of tiatr during the last 3 years. Thanking the \Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Cardozo stated that all this was possible because of the keen interest of the Chief Minister in promoting tiatr.
John Claro Fernandes and Sabina Fernandes expressed their feelings on behalf of all the awardees of ‘Lifetime Contribution to Tiatr Awards’.
Roseferns, vice president of TAG welcomed and Victor de Sa, member secretary of TAG proposed the vote of thanks. Lawry Travasso and Joy Fernandes compered the function.
On the occasion a Konkani Musical Show ‘Goykaranchem Sukh’ was staged by Anthony San and his troupe.
