Bengaluru, Oct 29: Leaders of the Madiga community felicitated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the “historic” cabinet decision in favour internal reservation among Scheduled Castes in Bengaluru on Monday.
Addressing the leaders of the Madiga community after receiving the felicitations, he said the demand for internal reservations among SCs was pending for decades.
There are 101 sects within the SCs. It is not possible to satisfy everybody but the government will strive to satisfy the demands of majority of the people, he said explaining that the decision of the Supreme Court on the issue must also be implemented.
The Chief Minister reiterated the Congress party’s commitment to ensure social justice for all sections and will never compromise on the issue.
He pointed out that the party legislators belonging to SCs, who had met at the residence of Home Minister Dr G Parameshwar on Sunday have decided that they have no objection to the government deciding on internal reservation.
The Telangana government has already constituted a commission to examine the issue, he said mentioning that he has already discussed with the Telangana Chief Minister. The Haryana cabinet has already decided in favour of internal reservation but is yet to issue an order.
Karnataka has decided to establish a commission to examine the modalities on internal reservation and also gather necessary data. “This commission will study all the past reports of different commissions and committees and will give its report. The government has decided to not to conduct any recruitments until the report is received,” he said.
The Chief Minister accused the opposition BJP for paying lip-sympathy for SC/ST communities without taking any decision in the States ruled by it or at Centre.
The Chief Minister later held an official review of the performance of commercial taxes and excise departments on revenue mobilisation.
Siddaramaiah later launched the 21st national census of animals, which will be carried out till the end of February 2025,
